I remember in the early 1970s somehow I, who was not a Christian then, found out that Marilyn, who was a Christian, had given $5.00 to some missionary that had been at our Church. I had an absolute fit over it. I could not believe that anyone would give that much to "church people". Not being a Christian my mind just could not comprehend such thinking. 1 Cor. 2:14
Now that I have, by God's grace, been given spiritual understanding, I get why Marilyn had the need to give. 2 Cor. 8 & 9 are two chapters that are good to review when we think of giving to see if our hearts are joined with God's. You will notice several things as you read through including there is no mention of a tithe. Maybe the most important verse in both chapters is 8:5. ..."they gave themselves first"...
Join me in the month of May as we meditate on 2Cor 8 & 9 to see if we are ..."in keeping with God's will." with our giving. Augustin when asked about such things as giving is quoted as saying "Love God and do what you want."
